Stündenglass is reinventing the modern day bong with an innovation that’s using gravity to deliver your lungs a nice cool and clean hoot. Not limited to a single bong, Stündenglass is also manufacturing gravity hookah devices. The American brand became a Canadian sensation when popular actor and cannabis figure head Seth Rogan shared a funny post taking a hoot with a Stündenglass bong.
Since, the internets been bouncing with good reviews, images and videos of people using their bongs and hookah’s around the world, so we thought it was time to talk to the team and see what’s going on. Below we chat with Michael Trzecieski, Design Director of Stundenglass.
Who is Stündenglass, when did your team get started, how big is the Stündenglass team and where are you based out of?
Stündenglass is a team of visionaries, innovators, tinkerers and engineers. We are versed in various aspects of industrial design, mechanical, material and production engineering. Our core team is based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Your team has some of the coolest revolutionary glass on the market. Tell us a little about what products you’ve got on the market right now?
We currently have the SG v2.0 on the market, which features a single support arm versus the dual support of the original version. In addition, it features percolation for additional vapor filtration and increased modularity for future expansion.
Gravity Perfected is your motto. Why is gravity important to Stündenglass, and how did you get started developing these creative designs? What was the inspiration behind the unique design?
We set out to create the world’s first gravity powered contactless hookah that serves as functional desktop art, combining both aesthetics and functionality into a single beautifully crafted device. Gravity Perfected is our motto and gravity is the main driving force behind the innovation of the product. The inspiration was to create a functional hourglass (Stunden means hour in German) device that functions as a shisha, using the force of water to both push and suck in vapor from the downstem assembly for a pure contactless delivery experience.
How does the gravity / water function help to cool or filter the hoot?
Gravity sucks vapor in from the downstem assembly, and as the vapor is sucked into the upper globe, it moves past water flowing downward from the upper to the lower globe. As the vapor percolates through the cascading water it is cooled and filtered.

This is a piece that has a visual appeal and looks nice on a counter top, or in a living room. Your team put a lot of time into manufacturing it this way, can you tell us why the visual appeal was so important to your team and give us a little insight into into the design process?
We set out to both create something that would be aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. Influenced by the silhouette of the hourglass, we arrived at a style that blends traditional hookah’s style with contemporary design and innovation. With a focus on precision machining, best in class materials and a more accessible delivery system we built a unique percolation/filtration system. Our team wanted to reinvent and reimagine the hookah experience; to manufacture a product from safe materials in a medical manufacturing facility that brings the hookah into the 21st century.
Let’s talk a little bit about the Stündenglass Gravity Hookah. How does it work and what’s the science behind each working part?
The core of the Stündenglass gravity hookah is the liquid piston assembly. The liquid piston assembly both draws vapor in from the downstem assembly as well as pushes cool vapor out of the mouthpiece. Through a 180-degree rotation of the globe assemblies, the Stündenglass gravity hookah uses the potential energy of water and transforms this potential energy into kinetic energy to create suction from a downstem assembly as well as to deliver vapour from the mouthpiece in a contactless manner.
We noticed the hookah comes with a long hose which would help to cool the hoot even more. Why is it so important to have a cool fresh hoot and would you say this helps Stündenglass offer one of the best organic hoots on the market today?
Because of its unique design, Stündenglass offers one of the best organic experiences on the market today. As the vapor percolates through the cascading water it is cooled and filtered, which is less irritating for the lungs. The hose allows you to sit back and relax on your couch while taking a draw.
To the team at Stündenglass, what makes for the perfect bong hoot?
The perfect Stündenglass experience is driven by some elbow grease and a great socially distanced experience.
If I’m not mistaken, Seth Rogan was seen on Instagram using the Stündenglass Hookah. That’s badass.
Has Stündenglass shipped to or worked with any other celebs or notable figures out there, and have you actually communicated with Seth or how did that all go down?
It was very organic. An early prototype was given to someone in Seth Rogen’s family, who then gave it to him. It was his own idea to create the video and share the experience online. We are working with some iconic figures and will be introducing some exciting collaborations soon!

Stündenglass is manufactured in China under strict ISO13485 medical manufacturing guidelines . The 10 year warranty covers the metal parts.
