The discussion as of late, quality cannabis reaching medical patients from the licensed producers, and quality cannabis reaching recreational consumers from the dispensaries. Or lack of.

If you’re new to the legal cannabis discussion in Alberta, you’ve probably heard about a lack of cannabis reaching patients and dispensaries as regulatory agencies suggest that licensed producers have been the bottle neck in fulfilling inventory requests.

When the cannabis does arrive, the discussion turns from lack of product, to quality and price. Both of which could use a little TLC, and it looks as though Sundial Growers Inc. is making a positive effort to change the current landscape.

In a market that restricts the sale of cannabis derived products such as edibles and most extracts, the pressure has never been so great for the licensed producers to offer a product at black market prices with the same high quality of craft growers.

Friday February 9, 2019, Sundial Growers Inc. announced an amendment to their current licences, adding an additional 140,000 square feet of “small-batch” individual grow rooms to their flag ship facility in Olds.

The additional space will host 40 Solaria Modules, breaking the new square footage into individual environments, allowing Sundial to focus on plant specific ecosystems.

The facility growth will be a positive for the surrounding economy in Olds and surrounding areas as the licensed producer plans to employ more than 500 people by the end of 2019.

Sundial is better known for their unique approach to branding cannabis in a restrictive market, and their premium quality genetics available to the recreational and medical markets.
